Steady for iPhone and Mac
Email [email protected] and you will get a reply from a person. Steady is made by one of them, so please allow a couple of days.
If something has gone wrong, it helps to say which device, which version (it is at the bottom of Settings), and what you were doing at the time.
Getting started
Type the thing and press return. Tick it off when it is done. That is the whole app — there is nothing to file and nothing to set up.
On the Mac, ⌥ space brings Steady up from anywhere with the cursor already in the box. On iPhone, the widget and the Shortcuts action both add a task without opening the app.
Sharing a list
How to invite someone
Settings → Multiplayer → invite someone. That produces a link; send it to the person you live with. When they open it on a device signed into their own iCloud, the two lists join up.
Whoever sets the space up is the one who subscribes. The person they invite does not pay.
Keeping something private
New tasks are shared by default, which you can change in Settings. Any single task can be made private from its ⋯ menu, and a private task is never written to the shared area at all.
The invitation did nothing
Both people need to be signed into iCloud, and the link only works once it reaches a device with Steady installed — opening it on a computer without the app will not do anything useful. If it still fails, Settings shows the reason underneath Multiplayer.
When things go wrong
My list is empty after updating on the Mac
If you had been running a copy sent to you directly rather than one from the Mac App Store, and you had Sync to iCloud switched off, the App Store version cannot reach the old file — the App Store requires apps to be sandboxed, which moves where they are allowed to keep things. Nothing is lost. Email us and we will walk you through moving it across.
Turning Sync to iCloud on before you update avoids this entirely.
Changes are not reaching my partner
Check that both of you are signed into iCloud and that iCloud sync is on for both. Changes travel through iCloud, so a device with no connection will catch up when it has one.
The cursor does not show
Two people only see each other's pointers when they are on the same wifi with the app open on the same page, and macOS has to have granted Steady local network access — Settings says so under Multiplayer if it has not. This is a small flourish, not a feature anything depends on.
Categories are guessing wrong
Right-click (or long-press) a task and pick the category you wanted. That sets it and writes a rule, and rules always beat the guess. Settings lists your rules so you can widen one — correcting "baking powder" once can be shortened to "baking".
Membership
A plain list is free and stays free. Membership covers every palette and critter, and sharing a list with someone.
- Restore a purchase: the restore link on the membership screen.
- Cancel: in Settings → your name → Subscriptions on iPhone, or App Store → your account → Subscriptions on Mac. Cancelling leaves you with the free list; nothing you wrote is taken away.
- Refunds are handled by Apple, at reportaproblem.apple.com.
- If you bought the one-off "Play Together" before membership existed, it still works and always will.
Your data
Steady has no server and collects nothing. The privacy page explains exactly what is kept and where.
Requirements
iOS 26 or later on iPhone, macOS 26 or later on Mac. Sharing a list needs iCloud on both devices.
